Will Ed. Commisioner Be Kentuckian?

The C-J has an interview with the new Kentucky Board of Education Chairman, who says he's pleased with the folks who have applied for the commissioner's job.

After the Barbara Erwin fiasco, the board seems to be going a little slow. But board member Doug Hubbard of Bardstown says he thinks the search for a new commish is on track. And Hubbard says it's not a foregone conclusion, as many Kentucky educators think, that the next commissioner will be a Kentuckian. But in a brief, friendly conversation I had with Hubbard today, he probably reflected the feelings of most of his fellow board members saying that if it comes down to two candidates who are equal and one is from Kentucky, the board is likely to hire the Kentuckian.

I was in Bardstown to cover the big lottery winners and dropped in on Hubbard to say hello.

Here's the C-J's story with new board chairman Joe Brothers.
