Beshear Up 19 In Latest Survey USA Poll

Steve Beshear still has a huge lead over Ernie Fletcher in the latest Survey USA/WHAS11 News poll released this morning.

Beshear has a 58%-39% lead over Fletcher, with just 2% undecided in the survey of likely Kentucky voters. The poll was conducted Sept. 8-10 and has a margin of error of 4.3%.

Beshear had a 21 point lead last month, so Fletcher has sliced a little off his lead. But with just 8 weeks until election day, Fletcher still trails by double digit margins in every area of the state. The one piece of good news for Fletcher is that he has made significant and statistical gains among voters 65 or older and is now tied with Beshear (49% apiece) among those "mature" voters. It seems clear that Fletcher's "Say No to Casinos" TV campaign has had virtually no impact on voters except those who are 65 or older. I'm still wondering what poll numbers Fletcher's folks have been looking at in deciding that the anti-gambling issue was a winner. The Survey USA polls have consistently shown more than 70% of Kentuckians say there should be a vote on expanding gaming. It's 79%-20% in this month's poll.

Here's the response to the poll from Fletcher's spokesman Jason Keller:
We still have a long way to go until Election Day. This race will continue to tighten and our goal all along has been to lead on Election Day, not two months out. It is also encouraging that there has been considerable movement among seniors, the most reliable voting block in the electorate.

Beshear's spokesperson Vicki Glass says the Survey USA numbers reflect what their internal polls have been showing the past few months. Glass refused to comment on the specifics of the poll saying the only one that counts is on election day.

I'll have more on this story tonight on WHAS11 News.

Mr. Hebert, As long as the reporters in this state refuse to write true, undeniable facts about the corruption in Steve Beshear’s past and ONLY writes allegations of corruption in Fletcher’s past, then reporters are not doing their jobs.

The corruption in Beshear’s past is TRUE, undeniable corruption where Beshear’s friends even landed in prison. That’s not allegation, that’s truth and factual historical truth.

If you were to run a side-by-side article on the FACTUAL corruption during the time Steve Beshear was Attorney General, the time Beshear was a registered lobbyist for the Payday Loan Industry and the corruption during Steve Beshear’s time as Lt. Governor -- I think the poll numbers would look different.

Is that why you won’t run a side-by-side? Is there a “reason” that has nothing to do with ‘journalism’ that you only write bad truths about one candidate here while at the same time refuse to write the bad truths about Steve Beshear?

Is it so important to you that Beshear become Governor that you chose to leave your readers in the dark about Beshear’s corrupt political past?

Is it so important to you to get ANY democrat in the gov. mansion that you will aid in getting a corrupt politician who has not helped this in 32 years get elected.

Steve Beshear has been a politician in this state for 32 years. During that 32 years Kentucky has SLID in education, healthcare, and economically to the bottom of the barrel. Also, during that same 32 years, Kentucky has been dubbed around the country as a corrupt state government which is run much like a mob -- that was especially our reputation while Beshear was AG.

Steve Beshear has NO track record to "help" Kentucky in any area of education or health care ... is it so important to you that any democrat be governor that you overlook your degree in journalism and ignore 'truth in print' for the "people?" oh well, I guess that is your problem that will end up being the whole state's problem.

If Beshear gets elected this state will not improve one bit. We all lose.

That previous post is pathetic partisan propaganda. Steve Beshear has a long and clean record of public service. Ernie Fletcher is the one who admitted to wrongdoing in his administration and issued pardons to his underlings who were committing crimes on his behalf. The only associates of either who ever faced prison time were the pals of Fletcher who received pardons from him.

Why are the Republicans unable to do anything but hurl lies this year? Because they have no accomplishments to trumpet, will sound ridiculous talking about things they should have been doing in the past four years but did not do, and they have nothing else to say. Their own candidates are so unpalatable and flawed that they can only hope to bring others down through mudslinging. It didn't work last year when Anne Northup and so many other Republicans were ousted, and it won't work this year when Ernie Fletcher is ousted, too.

Democratic Nominee Bruce Hendrickson Questions His Opponent's Failures

For Immediate Release
PINEVILLE, Ky./EWORLDWIRE/Sep. 5, 2007 --- "The recent discovery by the Attorney General’s Office that voting machines in Jefferson County were not certified by the state is another indication that Republican Secretary of State, Trey Grayson is not up to performing his job as Kentucky's Chief Election Officer and needs to be replaced by the voters in the November election," said Bruce Hendrickson, former mayor of Pineville and Democratic nominee for Kentucky Secretary of State.

Hendrickson further said, "It seems to me that the current Secretary of State is too dependent upon the office of Attorney General in performing his job as the Chief Election Officer."

The Secretary of State as Chief Election Officer should have a program of working with the County Clerks to make sure every voting machine in the Commonwealth is state certified. If he does not have the personnel to do the job, then the Secretary of State needs to let the General Assembly know that he has a problem. To date, Mr. Grayson has not contacted or testified before the General Assembly about having a problem addressing his ability to certify all the voting machines in Kentucky.

Mr. Grayson failed in 2004 to provide Kentuckians with a VVPT or Voter Verified Paper Trail. Change for Kentucky petitioned him with 3,200 signatures and a letter from Governor Howard Dean, asking Grayson to provide a VVPT. "Grayson denied Kentuckians that right, resutling in a situation that will, if nothing else, shake the public confidence in our election system. Now that it is election time, Grayson wants a VVPT, that will not fly."

As Secretary of State, Hendrickson plans to begin a comprehensive review how the Secretary of State can improve his work as Kentucky's Chief Election Officer. This includes formation of a County Clerks' Advisory Committee to assist the Secretary of State in administering elections and preventing fraud.

In the position of Secretary of State, Hendrickson believes that he as the Secretary of State should testify before the General Assembly to help it understand the challenges faced by local clerks in assisting the Secretary of State in holding elections. One of the major challenges is the lack of adequate funding for personnel and operations in the offices of the offices of the 120 county clerks. "Fair elections are essential to American Democracy. Operation of elections should be a priority in any state budget. This has not always been the case as in the example of the possibility of a primary run-off had some counties looking at financial bankruptcy," said Hendrickson.

"As Secretary of State, I will work with Steve Beshear and Dan Mongiardo to make sure that all legislation regarding the operation of elections is funded so that counties will not be facing even the possibility of bankruptcy in the future."

Steve Beshear is such an exciting candidate for KY...I am finally looking forward to the future for KY.
