83% of Kentuckians Favor Death Penalty-Survey USA

A Survey USA/WHAS 11 poll has found that 83% of Kentuckians favor the death penalty.

The poll, which was done Tuesday afternoon, shows a margin of 83%-15% in favor of Kentucky having the death penalty. The numbers were fairly consistent across all demographic groups and areas of the state. Surprisingly, 80% of respondents who identified themselves as "liberal" said they support the death penalty. The polling was done on the same day the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear a challenge to the lethal injections used to carry out Kentucky's death penalty cases.

The respondents were also asked if they believe lethal injection is "cruel and unusual punishment" which is banned by the 8th amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The results:

85% Not cruel and unusual
13% Yes
