Governor Fletcher told WHAS 11 News today that he would issue the call for a special legislative session "in a day or two." Fletcher also tried to put an end to speculation that the session might be pushed back to August saying "it's gonna be July 5th." Fletcher says the session's "main focus will be energy" saying he and lawmakers have "pretty well agreed" on what will be in the energy bill that's designed to lure construction of coal to gas plants in Kentucky. But he also indicated that he plans to include all of the university projects that weren't approved in the 2007 session as part of the call. Fletcher says he hasn't decided whether to include a proposed ban on domestic partner health benefits for state and university employees on the agenda. Fletcher says if lawmakers will cooperate, the special session could be a quick one, like the five day session that was held in 2006. |
