Anne Spent $700K, Henry May Get A Refund

All of the post-election reports from the gubernatorial primary campaign have been filed with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance and there are plenty of interesting tidbits in those reports.

First...the winners:

Steve Beshear: Lots of folks were apparently scrambling to "get right" at the end of the democratic primary for governor as they saw poll results which showed Beshear was going to be the top vote getter. Beshear collected $514,000 since May 10. He also has $50,000 cash on hand after raising a total of $1.9 million dollars.

Ernie Fletcher: The incumbent governor raised more than $3.4 million for his reelection bid, 176K since May 10. Fletcher was left with $23,000 cash on hand.

The others:

Anne Northup: The former congresswoman poured another $200,000 of her own money into her campaign in the last two weeks, increasing her total loan to the campaign to $700,000. Northup raised $71,000 since May 10, a total of $1.9 million for the campaign. But more than one third of that was Northup's own cash, providing a stark contrast for her. Remember, it was always tough for Northup's opponents to raise money when she was an incumbent congresswoman.

Billy Harper: Spent $6 million of his own money on a campaign that never really got off the ground.

Steve Henry: Perhaps the most interesting spending report was filed by Steve Henry. Henry reports $420,000 cash on hand at the end of the campaign with a debt of $1,047,700. Nearly all of that debt is owed Henry through personal loans he made to his campaign. In other words, Henry could take the money left over and repay himself almost half of what he poured into his own campaign. It's a fair question to ask Henry why he put the brakes on spending by his campaign, which took in a total of $1.7 million.

Bruce Lunsford: Spent more than $5.7 million dollars of his own money in losing cause. Lunsford's campaign had $61,000 cash on hand after raising a total of $6.6 million.

Jody Richards: The House Speaker struggled to raise cash throughout the campaign, taking in $60,000 since May 10. Richards did pull in a total of $662K, none from his own pocket.

Gatewood Galbraith: Raised a total of $26,000 but the entertainment value was worth every penny to those who attended the forums in which Galbraith participated.

Otis Hensley: $750 total.

Guess Henry really did fake that $800K media buy.

Get him, Mark! You know he's lied to you for years. Don't let up on this crooked couple.

Rumor has it that C.D. Marshall is talking these days. Give him a call.
