Hey guys, here's the deal on what I generally do with polling information. You'll never see me do a news story on a poll commissioned by a candidate. You'll never see me do a news story on a straw poll, push poll (unless it's to bash the candidate doing the pushing) or any kind of polling or survey that doesn't have some sort of independence. That said, I think it's perfectly logical to throw any of that information on this blog, which is read by Kentucky political junkies who can discern a poll that means something from one that doesn't. The straw poll taken at the magistrates and commissioners convention is a good example. I gave you the results which showed Steve Henry and Ernie Fletcher winning big. Most of you are smart enough to figure out that Henry is a former Jefferson county commissioner and one of his biggest supporters is Tony Carriss, the head of the magistrates association (Full disclosure: Carriss is a longtime personal friend of mine). Fletcher has been handing out checks left and right to every county official with two hands so it's obvious he's going to get their support. Is it noteworthy for political junkies? Yes. Does it mean Henry and Fletcher are supported by the overwhelming majority of elected county officials? Maybe. Is it newsworthy? No, because it was totally unscientific and may not even reflect the views of county officials. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

Mark, I understand your points on the lack of newsworthiness of many polls, but what about some indept coverage on the Governor's claims of inheriting a $1 billion deficit, creating 100's of millions in surplus, creating 100,000 new jobs, record funding of education and health care, bringing a new culture to Frankfort, political appointments consisting of 61% Democrats, etc., etc. Where are the media in either pointing out the falsity of these claims, or at least demanding some hard facts to back up these claims. It appears that the Governor's claims get more and more grandiose and the media just report whatever he and his office claims without any accountability. This lack of media scrutiny must leave many voters believing all of the Governor's fantasies.
