Steve Henry told reporters today that he believes politics is playing a role in the referral of a "matter" involving him to the U.S. Attorney. Henry says he's leading in the polls so his opponents are shooting at him. Henry wouldn't identify who he thinks might be the source of what he called "an anonymous" complaint filed with the U.S. Attorney's office in Louisville. As WHAS 11 News first reported last week, that complaint was forwarded to the U.S. Justice Department in Washington. Henry says that was the right move by U.S. Attorney David Huber because it will take local politics out of the decision. Sources tell me the complaint concerned Henry's acceptance of corporate contributions for what he says was a U.S. Senate exploratory committee. Corporate contributions to any political campaign are illegal. But Henry told reporters today that the three donations that appeared to be from corporations were actually legal contributions, made by "sole proprieterships". In other words, Henry claims those companies are owned by one individual who made the political contributions in his/her company's name and the money came straight out of that individual's pocket, not a corporate account. He says that would be legal. Henry says all of those contributions have been refunded and he's in the process of returning almost all of the $200,000 he collected off-the-books. He says that money came from his "friends" and he hopes they will turn around the recontribute that money to his gubernatorial campaign. 2 CommentsLeave a comment |

He sounds eerily like FLETCHER -- it's all just a political witch hunt! Who does this guy think he's kidding? Drop out, Stevie.
Sorry, but there's no way that's the only thing that got referred to the DOJ.
He's done way too much that's illegal for it to solely be about the money.
