Former Henry Worker E-mail

Here's the body of an e-mail Leslie Holland sent to Henry supporters Wayne and Lou Gunnell shortly after Holland quit working for Henry last year:

My thoughts after you read the e-mail.

Good morning,

I've had the opportunity to speak to a few of you since yesterday, but wanted to make sure this message reached everyone as quickly as possible. Effective immediately, I am no longer the "point guard" for Steve Henry and all questions about his political and charitable endeavors should now be directed to him.

Please know that the decision was entirely mine and I continue to wish Steve all the best. At this juncture, however, I need to move on to other opportunities. Thanks so much for your support and friendship. May you and yours have a wonderful holiday season.

With warm regards,
Leslie Holland

Hebert thoughts: Two things come to mind. Number one, it's clear that Holland thought she was working for a political campaign when she quit. That's not what Henry has said. He has said her main job was getting a Bardstown Rd. building fixed up. That building is now his gubernatorial campaign headquarters. Second, Holland wishes Henry well, implying that she still likes Henry and supports any future political endeavor he might pursue. So what happened between December and last week when Holland filed a complaint with the Registry of Election Finance, accusing Henry of breaking state law? Holland claims she started "connecting more of the dots" after she'd had a chance to step away from Henry and see what he was doing. She says her e-mail to Henry supporters was essentially a form letter and she didn't want to say anything that would "burn bridges" when she didn't have to. Henry's camp claims Holland is an angry former employee who wanted to run Henry's gubernatorial campaign but was told "no".

Also, one of the claims in Holland's complaint to the Registry is that Henry told folks at a December 2nd fundraiser that they could give him blank checks or write him a check for his U.S Senate Exploratory committee. Henry would return that check, then the donor could write a new check to the Henry for Governor campaign once he officially announced. The Gunnells, who attended that Dec. 2 event, say they never got any such request from Henry. Wayne Gunnell is a Henry Co. magistrate and Henry supporter.
