More Politics - Weaver and Conway

Unsuccessful congressional candidate Mike Weaver is apparently ready to try and win another job in state government.

Weaver tells me "in all probability" he will file to run for state treasurer on monday. The former state representative from Radcliff gave up his seat to run for congress, losing to 2nd District congressman Ron Lewis last November. Weaver says the managerial skills he learned in the military and his reputation for honesty and integrity would make the treasurer's job a perfect fit.

Meanwhile, Greg Stumbo's decision to seek the state's number two job (Lt. Gov.) has suddenly opened a door for Jack Conway, a door he assumed was closed.
The Louisville lawyer told me tonight that "it's highly likely" he will file to run for attorney general, now that Stumbo isn't seeking reelection. Conway seemed surprised by the news that Stumbo would not seek reelection, saying he hasn't had a chance to relay the news to his wife and discuss a possible bid for attorney general. Conway lost a close race to Anne Northup in the 2002 3rd District congressional race.
