That's right, two sources close to Stumbo tell me the Attorney General has been in serious discussions with the Vencor founder, horse owner and businessman about a Lunsford-Stumbo ticket. This morning on WHAS Radio's Francene show, Stumbo said he wouldn't run for governor and planned to run for reelection. Then Stumbo turned into a tease, saying he still had one other option, to run as the number two man on a ticket with someone else. When Stumbo was asked if that potential gubernatorial candidate might be Dave Armstrong, Stumbo laughed and wouldn't say. Again, my sources tell me Stumbo is seriously considering the possiblity of joining Lunsford on a ticket.
Lunsford returned my phone call tonight, telling me he would neither confirm nor deny that he's talking to Stumbo. He did say, on the record, that he's interested in the governor's race but wouldn't say which way he's leaning, in or out. In other words, Lunsford isn't saying much right now.
