Hatchett Out/Owen Searches

Former State Auditor Ed Hatchett says he will not be a candidate for any office in 2007.

In an e-mail to me this morning, Hatchett says he's decided to seek opportunities in the private sector. He didn't elaborate on what he'll be doing in the future. As recently as monday afternoon, Hatchett was still Charlie Owen's top choice for a running mate, according to state Sen. David Boswell. With Hatchett out of the picture, it appears Boswell may be Owen's pick, if Owen decides to run for governor. Owen has not returned repeated phone calls to his home in Louisville.
But Boswell told me at 9 EST that he told Owen monday afternoon that he didn't want to be part of an Owen-Boswell ticket. According to Boswell, Owen told him to "hold on, I make my best decisions at the last minute!" Boswell says he's headed to Bardstown today to meet with a friend who's battling cancer. He says Owen knows how to get a hold of him and Boswell still doesn't know what he'll tell Owen if he calls, looking for a running mate. It should be a wild day at filing deadline headquarters in the capitol building!!!!
