Democratic Copycats

It looks like the four major, declared democratic party candidates for governor all agree on a few major issues.

Steve Beshear, Steve Henry, Jonathan Miller and Jody Richards all say they will support putting a constitutional amendment on the ballot. They all favor letting voters decide if casino gambling should be legalized. Yes, Jody Richards favors putting expanded gambling on the ballot. He claims that's the same position he took four years ago when he ran for governor. I'm not sure that's true, but can't find anything in my old 2003 scripts to prove him wrong. Richards won't say if he'd vote for a gambling amendment.

The Fab Four also agree on a constitutional amendment to limit the governor's pardoning powers. All agree that governor's shouldn't be allowed to pardon anyone before they're convicted. That's an obvious slap at Governor Fletcher. But former Gov. Paul Patton also pardoned Danny Ross, Skipper Martin and two labor leaders before they were convicted and Steve Henry didn't raise a stink at the time. In fairness, I don't remember any reporter asking the then-Lt. Governor his opinion on Patton's actions.

One funny note.....Jody Richards said today that he'll make the Department of Veterans Affairs a cabinet level agency if he's elected governor. Sound familiar?
Yeah, Steve Henry said a long time ago that he'd boost the veterans' department up to cabinet level, making his wife, Heather French-Henry, the cabinet secretary at $1 a year. French-Henry's pet issue is veterans affairs.

Dear Mark:

"Copycat" is a pejorative. If you mean it as such, be more explicit.

i got negative connotation out of this. maybe i wasn't supposed to, but it seems to me that mark is trying to say these guys are lame because they won't come up with anything even remotely original.

mark?
