Armstrong Says "I'm Serious"

Former Kentucky Attorney General, Louisville Mayor and Jefferson County Judge-Executive David Armstrong says he is seriously considering a race for governor.

Armstrong tells me he's making calls to friends and former political supporters, gauging their commitment to an Armstrong for Governor campaign and figuring out how much he has in financial commitments. If Armstrong meets his goals on those two fronts in the next few days, he says he'll file to run for Governor. Armstrong says he's talked to "a number" of folks about joining his tickets with "several" agreeing to be his running mate if he decides to run. He declined to name them. Armstrong has been working for a Louisville law firm, enjoying the economic development part of the job but disdaining the rest of it, he says. So he'd like to get back into public service. Armstrong is 65 and is grappling with a potentially debilitating disease which affects his speech, at times.
But he says he feels healthy, doesn't mind raising money and would be ready for a Paducah-to-Pikeville campaign. If he can't get enough commitments, Armstrong says he'll be happy staying in Louisville and being a grandfather.
