The post-election finance reports for congressional candidates are out and they show one-third of John Yarmuth's campaign collections came from his own pocket. According to the F.E.C. filings, Yarmuth's campaign raised a total of about 2-point-2 million dollars. $708,000 of that was in the form of personal loans from Yarmuth. Now that he's in office, he can expect PACs and others to donate money that could be used to repay the loans. One PAC and one individual have already donated $9300, post-election, to Yarmuth's campaign. Yarmuth said during the campaign that he wouldn't try to raise money to repay personal loans to his campaign. In the 2nd District congressional race, incumbent Ron Lewis raised more than half of his total from PACs. Lewis took in about 1-point-7 million dollars, more than one million from PACs. The real story in this race was probably Mike Weaver's inability to raise money. Weaver got less than one million dollars, a paltry sum for a candidate that was trying to run ads in a slew of media markets that cover the far-reaching 2nd District. In the 4th District, democrat Ken Lucas got hammered in fundraising. Lucas raised almost 1-point-5 million dollars. The problem was Geoff Davis nearly tripled that, taking in 4-point-23 million bucks. That's a huge difference. And Davis got alot more help from his party than Lucas did. Those black and white TV ads that appeared to show Lucas dodging a camera were brutal and paid for by the republican party. |
