Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer has been approached about being a spokiesperson for a "national company". The former U.K. basketball star asked the Executive Branch Ethics Commission if he could appear in TV commercials or serve as a spokesman for a company that isn't regulated by the Agriculture Department. The Ethics Commission issued an opinion saying Farmer could serve as a spokesman for a company as long as there's no direct or indirect regulation by Farmer's employees. A spokesman for the Agriculture Dept., Ted Sloan, refused to say what company had approached the former Wildcat. All Sloan would say is that there's no deal signed, no offer on the table, Farmer just wanted to make sure he didn't commit an ethics violation if he showed up on TV or radio pitching someone's product. |
