Equal Opportunity Boobirds

Governor Fletcher was roundly booed when he was introduced to speak at a Ford Motor Co. event in Louisville on Monday.

The rollout of the 2008 Super Duty trucks at the Kentucky Truck plant was the occasion. The plant shut down production lines for awhile so hundreds of workers could attend the ceremony (about 5200 work at the plant). When the governor was introduced, a loud chorus of boos rang through the plant. Fletcher went on with his speech, promising the "boldest, baddest" incentive package possible to persuade Ford to invest in its two Louisville plants and keep them open. When Fletcher quit talking, it was all cheers, no boos. When I asked him about being booed, Fletcher said he didn't hear any boos, he heard cheering and enthusiasm. There's no way he didn't hear the boos. They were loud! But the employees didn't save all of their boos for Fletcher. Their U.A.W. plant representative, Mike Abel, was also greeted with some boos when he took the podium.
