Where's Mitch?

Does anybody else get the feeling that Mitch McConnell may be losing his grip on the Kentucky Republican Party?

He's got to be feeling lousy today because his chance to be Senate Majority Leader appears to be headed down the toilet. That would be bad for Kentucky as well as McConnell.
But I wonder where McConnell has been for some of the republicans he recruited to run for office, but who later ran into trouble. Did anyone see the Senator anywhere near Anne Northup last night? Anywhere near her campaign at all? Polls showed her reelection bid was in trouble and Northup didn't tell McConnell to "stay away" like she did to President Bush. So what gives? McConnell's folks say Northup didn't need any sign of the Washington Republican establishment anywhere near her reelection bid. That comes on the heels of the senior senator leaving Ernie Fletcher twisting in the wind. I'm not sure if McConnell is trying to be politically prudent or just playing "cut and run" with his own folks. In fairness, I haven't called him to ask. But folks are talking, including some folks who used to be part of McConnell's Kentucky inner circle.
