November 2006 ArchivesHere's the latest on the behind-the-scenes machinations of democrats who are intereested/not interested in the governor's race. ...Congressman Ben Chandler's spokesperson hasn't returned three phone calls. Bruce Lunsford hasn't returned three (3) of my phone calls. And he always calls me back. Ed Worley is out of town and hasn't returned phone messages. Charlie Owen hasn't returned a phone message. He rarely calls me back. ...Ben Chandler will make it official on Tuesday, he's not going to run for governor in 2007. So the scramble for the Democratic Party nomination will continue and get more confusing as Louisville businessman Charlie Owen has reentered the picture. ...The folks in the Kentucky Justice Cabinet have apparently taken too many lessons from folks in Washington on how to deal with the news media. In an odd scene, the spokesperson for the Cabinet cut off reporters' questions in the middle of a news conference about the Kentucky Supreme Court's decision regarding state's use of lethal injections on Death Row inmates. The move didn't sit well with veteran Frankfort reporters, including me. Maybe... I won't normally use news releases in my blog, but here's the Fletcher campaign release about their consulting team. I thought you political junkies and media watchers would like to see it. Ben Chandler burned up the phone lines on Monday, calling a number of democratic party supporters to tell them he's still seriously considering a run for governor. ...The negotiations on the democrats side is fluid. Here are some tidbits to get you thinking: ...All of you who are trying to keep up with the democrats exercise in picking candidates for governor, need to watch the story I did on Thursday night. John Yarmuth recounted a funny story to me a few days before election day. ...A couple of tidbits from Election night, one funny, one sad. ...Does anybody else get the feeling that Mitch McConnell may be losing his grip on the Kentucky Republican Party? ...Now that the '06 elections are over, the Kentucky governor's race begins in earnest. It probably didn't matter what Anne Northup did in the 3rd District Congressional race, she was going to lose to the anti-Bush, anti-Congress voters. But the turnout and get-out-the-vote effort in Louisville's West End was impressive on election day, killing any chance Northup had of winning another term. ..."If Anne Northup loses, will she run for governor?" Several of you have asked me that question in recent days. My simple answer is: I don't think so.
