Shoplifting Sheriff Candidate?

9:28 PM Thu, Oct 26, 2006 |

One candidate for Floyd County, Ind. Sheriff should have a good grasp on prosecuting criminals and operating a jail. He's been there.

Libertarian candidate Thomas Keister of New Albany was arrested outside a Louisville adult movie store October 13th. He's accused of stealing adult DVDs with the help of a store clerk. Keister is charged with theft. According to the owner of Preston Video, he suspected his clerk and Keister were ripping off DVDs. So he waited for Keister outside the store, checked his bag and found it full of DVDs he didn't pay for.
Keister was locked up in the Jefferson County Jail. Keister had pleaded guilty to a 6 year old drunk driving charge in Floyd County earlier this year (yes, that may be worth a story...why'd it take 6 years?). Keister works for a Louisville insurance company, has a MySpace page and is treasurer of the Floyd Co. Libertarian Party.
