State Senator Dan Seum says he's "absolutely convinced" the Ford plant on Fern Valley Road "will be gone" by 2009 or 2010. Seum blames the STAR anti-pollution program. He claims Ford officials are concerned about the tougher air pollution standards being pushed by Mayor Abramson and the Air Pollution Control Board. Seum worked to abolish the VET testing program and tried to take away the powers of the Air Pollution Control Board in the 2006 legislative session. But he claims STAR's threat to Ford jobs is real. U.A.W. officials and Independent mayoral candidate Ed Springston say the same thing. Abramson says Ford officials never brought up any reservations about air pollution standards during recent negotiations over plant shutdowns. Abramson did not attend the candidates' forum in Fairdale. He was at an event in the Highlands, according to his campaign spokesman. That left Springston and Republican Kelly Downard free to beat up Abramson without any response. The main thrust of their remarks was that Abramson and merged government have ignored areas outside the Watterson Expressway, including Fairdale. Abramson's campaign manager says the mayor's two opponents don't have the credibility to make those allegations. Mark Riddle says Abramson has campaigned in the Fairdale area several times in the past couple of weeks and had some "official" events there as well. 2 CommentsLeave a comment |

Anyone care to ask Jerry Abramson to define credibility? Seriously, I was brought up in Okolona/Fairdale so I may have more credibility than he has in this particular issue.
With the exception of the Gene Snyder Freeway addition when you look at Fairdale today it is very similar to what it was 30 years ago. Progress has been slow to non existent in many areas economically.
Just my opinion as usual.
Thanks.
Ed Springston
