Jefferson Co. P.V.A. Race

8:16 PM Thu, Sep 28, 2006 |

The man Governor Fletcher appointed to the Jefferson County P.V.A.'s office is having a little bit of a rough time in his first run for office.

John May was appointed to the post in 2005 after Denise Harper-Angel left to take a seat in the state senate. May is running for the full term this fall. But one of the guys who faced him the Republican primary, Tom Riddle, is supporting May's opponent, Democrat Tony Lindauer. Riddle has also filed an ethics complaint against May. And now, the independent candidate in the P.V.A.'s race, Griffin Torrence, is telling voters not to vote for him. Torrence is throwing his support behind Lindauer, too. Lindauer, Torrence and Riddle all played a role in that lawsuit against the Fletcher administration after they were shut out of the P.V.A. test required to run for the office. They won. And there's still some bad blood. May doesn't seem to be the typical politician and Lindauer has run for Metro Council and lost. But this PVA contest, which is typically a ho-hummer, may be worth watching.

I am tired of republican corruption and we need a change. Not just in Frankfort but also at the Jefferson County PVA's office!

This Fletcher appointee incumbent is ethically challenged. He is cozy with GLAR and he owns a real estate company. Time for a fresh face without conflicts of interest. Vote Linduaer.

MARK,

Mr. May is just a puppet of the Fletcher administration. He is almost as inept as the Governor who appointed him. While Mr. Lindauer may not be as experienced, he did pass the state-administered test. Therefore, technically speaking, he is qualified. Please vote for Tony Lindauer.

John May is the best qualified for the job. He was a real estate appraisor for 20 years and the President of the realtor Board. He passed the test and has done a great job as the PVA. I say elect John May and keep the best qualified person in the job.

Tony Lindauers conflict of interest is rather self serving. Tony says that no one who is in real estate sales or an appraiser can be PVA. This is scary thought to disqualify all real estate professionals. We are hiring a County Appraiser here. This job is not a political job. It is a job where one needs to understand how to appraise real estate. I would sure hope the PVA is an appraiser. To say its a conflict of interest because he is an appraiser is like saying the person running for Supreme Court Judge has a conflict because they are an attorney. Ask Mark Hebert what happened under the last PVA when they didnt understand the Real Estate Market.

Why isn't anyone paying attention to Lindauer's scandal?

He lied about his age in order to qualify for a tax exemption. Then he miraculously remembered his age as he got in the race.

Aaron Tasman had a commercial about it.

My first real job out of college was as a field reporesentative for the Jefferson Co. PVA - first under Bill Butler, continuing to the beginning of the Harper-Angel terms. Since then I have been an appraiser and have used the PVA office resources on an almost daily basis as well as represented many clients in appeals at both the local and state levels.
For one to say that "Mr. May...is ...inept" reveals that one has no idea of what the word means. There have been more positive changes in the PVA office within the past ten months than, cumulatively, within the past ten years.
Folks, let's judge people on their displayed merits and not solely on the basis of a party affiliation. While I believe that Gov. Fletcher's name will rightfully ring down the halls of history for all of the wrong reasons, this is one democrat who will be voting republican in the PVA race.
