Greg Stumbo is such a jokester. He loves to mess with people's heads and he's good at it.

Stumbo left reporters with the impression that he's seriously considering a race for Governor in 2007 after virtually closing the door on that idea earlier in the week. Stumbo has begun raising money for his reelection to the Attorney General's Office. So what's he doing implying that he might run for Governor? Messing with Ernie Fletcher's head and yanking the chain of gullible reporters (I'm usually one of them but not this time!)
As I've said before, Stumbo has too many skeletons in his closet to run for Governor and he knows it. He's smart enough to stay away from that race. But by implying he might run, he keeps Republicans guessing, including Fletcher. The Repubs (and Fletcher if he's the nominee) would love nothing better than to face Stumbo in the 2007 Governor's race. One could argue that he'd be the Democrats worst choice for a nominee. But what better way to keep his name in the minds of potential contributors than to get his name in the paper as a possible candidate for Governor?
You've got to like Stumbo's spunk, even if you don't like his politics.

That makes absolutely NO sense at all, Hebert. He may have messed with YOUR head, but I would imagine that would be a small feat.
