Achy Breaky Ernie

When he was a preacher he sang a little bit, but Ernie Fletcher's career as a vocalist is about to take off. The Governor was singing karaoke at a Frankfort bar last week.

Fletcher, his wife Glenna and Robbie Rudolph went to The Dragon pub on August 15th to help one of the Governor's staff members celebrate her upcoming wedding. While they were there, the Fletcher/Rudolph trio warmed up the karaoke machine with a rendition of Billy Ray Cyrus' song "Achy Breaky Heart".

The Governor told me that he spent most of the song lip synching and letting Glenna carry the tune. Fletcher says he's capable of "carrying a tune" but his wife's the better singer. When I asked him if letting his hair down at a Frankfort bar might help his perception among average Kentuckians...Fletcher said, "That's who I am." No word on whether Robbie Rudolph's vocal lessons from the Murray State University choir director have paid off (that's a joke, loosen up!!!).

He couldn't pick a better song?

Although, now that I think about it, he would probably spin that question by saying the song represents the "unbridled spirit" of the state!
