Smart politicians rarely take a public stand in primary races of their own party. Too messy. Ticks off too many people. So what's Congressman Ben Chandler doing supporting Carol Angel's ill-fated challenge to powerful Fayette County Clerk Don Blevins? According to former C-J political reporter Al Cross, Chandler recorded calls for Angel to use in the last few days of her primary campaign. So Chandler has ticked off Blevins, who's still going to be in office and in a position to make it tough for Chandler if he decides to run a statewide campaign for Governor or U.S. Senate. There are 119 other county clerks in Kentucky. Everybody has to get a license plate, so County Clerks probably talk to more people than any other elected local official. It doesn't seem real bright to make your hometown clerk real mad. There was another questionable political decision made by a former candidate for Congress. Eleanor Jordon now heads the Attorney General's satellite office in Louisville. Jordan is a non-merit employee who actively supported John Yarmuth's campaign for Congress. Yarmuth won, but again, if you're Greg Stumbo, do you really want your top person in Louisville picking one candidate, or one group, over another? In a primary race? Maybe Stumbo couldn't say much because he's meddled in a few primary races himself. 2 CommentsLeave a comment |

Don Blevins has oppossed Ben Chandler everytime he has run for office in the past 15 years. Blevins remains mad about an audit Chandler's office did which resulted in Blevins giving up a contract with the city of Lexington which paid him extra money. Blevins supported Jody Richards and gave $500 to his campaign. He did robo calls for Richards. He then was part of the group who tried to get Margret Kannesohn the nomination for Congress against Chandler. He also did nothing to support Chandler as the Democrat nominee against Fletcher. Angel on the other hand managed Chandler's campaigns for Governor and Congress. She was instrumental in Chandler getting the democratic nomination for Congress.
In short Blevins couldn't work harder against Chandler than he has over the last 12 to 15 years. You may not find Chandler's support of Angel bright but it did show loyalty to a friend. One thing Chandler would never do is support a Republican against Blevins, let's see if Blevins is the honorable victim you try to make him out to be.
Shouldn't there be an investigation as to why a Stumbo employee is helping an election? I bet she used her on-duty time to work for Yarmuth. Funny how Democrats get away with so much and no one reports it.
