I know all of you political junkies heard about Greg Stumbo's ill-fated boating adventure in Florida. He took a boat out on the ocean himself then didn't return for several hours, including overnight. His wife gets worried and calls the local sheriff's office which sends out a helicopter and boats to find the missing Kentucky attorney general. They find Stumbo, his boat run aground on a sand bar. Now, how many of you Kentucky political junkies, upon hearing this story, didn't ask the obvious first question "Is Greg O.K.?" and instead asked "Was he alone?". I know many of you did because you told me and you also know Stumbo's past reputation as a womanizer. And that's why all this talk I hear about Stumbo running for governor makes me wonder if that's realistic talk. Here's why. Stumbo is still embroiled in a legal fight with Travis Frisch, who's the mother of Stumbo's out-of-wedlock child. Stumbo was fooling around with Frisch while he was still married and in the legislature and she was working in Frankfort. Stumbo has been battling with her over child support and court venue issues. The attorney general has already been taunted with the "Who's Your Daddy?" comments at the Fancy Farm Picnic and it will get a lot worse and a lot rougher if he runs for governor. Greg Stumbo could conceivably win a Democratic primary because his office's investigation of the Fletcher administration has singlehandedly energized the hard core Democrats in Kentucky. And Stumbo is one of the smarter politicians in Kentucky. But a smart politician wouldn't..... A) keep fighting a court battle over a child and B) put his wife and kids through the trauma of a governor's race featuring hubby and father as a "deadbeat dad." We'll see what happens, but I'm betting Stumbo and his best political strategist (his wife Mary Karen) will figure out that the whispers after a night on the high seas would become louder in a race for governor. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

Stumbo's Isle
(with sincere apologies to the late-Bob Denver)
Oh sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip,
That started from a Kentucky town,
Aboard a fishing skiff.
(abord a fishing skiff)
The boat took a mighty lawyer man,
A skipper brave and true,
To fish along the old Sun Coast,
For a three hour cruise.
(a three hour cruise)
The weather started getting rough,
The tiny skiff was rocked,
A call went out to the shore patrol,
The lawyer man was lost.
(The lawyer man was lost)
The skiff went aground on a sand bar,
Of a highly travelled bridge,
With Stumbo,
As skipper too,
A governor,
who is sick,
The Speaker,
The Pro-tem and
Crit and Lin,
Here on Stunbo's Isle.
