The House's budget calls on Fletcher to find $50 million in Executive Branch savings over the next two years. And they didn't specify where to look. Just "find it so we can spend it". Instead of protecting Fletcher and taking that language out of the budget,...
Just some observations and speculation (not all mine) on why the State Senate budget takes money away from all of the other state universities and gives it to UK. The laudable goal is to help UK meet its mission as a top 20 research university and they need cash to compete. But here are some other thoughts, Oliver Stone conspiracy-theory style:
Louisville State Representative Scott Brinkman is being mentioned as a possible candidate for Attorney General next year. He's a rising star in Republican circles.
Brinkman has built a reputation in Frankfort as a bridge builder. He's a moderate Republican who isn't afraid to speak his mind. He's intelligent enough to maintain the respect of Democrats, who seek him out for Republican-Democrat coalitions on legislation.
For the second time in less than a month, Lt. Gov. Steve Pence got caught in Florida, on vacation, while Governor Fletcher was headed to the hospital and had to hand his gubernatorial duties to the Lieutenant Governor.
