Tribeca? Try Louisville

4:52 PM Thu, Oct 01, 2009 |

Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca... just one word and you know what someone is talking about-- a prestigious film festival.

The team behind Louisville's International Film Festival hopes that in a few years our city ranks right up there with the world's most elite. So why not be "in" on the next hot thing in film festivals before the rest of the planet?

Never been to a film festival? That's all the more reason to check it out this weekend. Louisville only occasionally gets true independent, art house films. Baxter Avenue Theater brings the few we do see, but much of what you'll experience at a film festival never ends up in a theater. That makes this event more exciting and more appealing for anyone who enjoys a riveting documentary or just a unique flick. The productions you'll see will feature a few familiar faces on the big screen. The more exciting part, however, is watching an unknown actor in a small budget film then finding them in a Hollywood blockbuster a couple of years later. Your friends and family will rave about some "new" actor, but you'll already be quite familiar with their work.

One final case to stop by this weekend? It was visualized and made a reality by a native Louisvillian. Conrad Bachmann grew up on a farm in Valley Station and graduated from Valley High School. He moved to LA and wound up working alongside Hollywood's biggest stars like Bing Crosby. Ever heard of Baywatch, Beverly Hills 90210, Starsky & Hutch, or Charlie's Angels? How about the movies Rules of Engagement, Tremors, or Outbreak? Then you've seen Louisville's own! Come meet him and enjoy his vision for Louisville's film scene. Plus, after walking around all day at the St. James Art Fair your feet will thank you for giving them a break with a feast for your eyes and ears.
