This evening, my photographer and I hurried to the scene of a meth lab in Louisville. You can find out about that on TV. What was really fascinating tonight was what happened while we were there shooting video. Several undercover officers stood alongside the house assessing the scene and handling a difficult family situation. I was talking to a couple of the officers about what had happened when a man walked up to us on the sidewalk. The man carried a clipboard, had a Bluetooth in his ear, and wore a gray polo shirt embroidered with "Insight." At first, I thought the neighborhood cable guy was curious about all the activity. Not so. The man asked us, "do you have Insight?" The officers and I all thought it was a joke, so we chuckled aloud. I mean, we're at the scene of a meth lab here with 2 people in handcuffs. Really? But the man seemed confused. His face grew more serious and asked again, "do you?" One of the officers finally announced that he did, in fact, have cable. That wouldn't suffice though. The man pressed further, "but is your cable with Insight?" That, clearly, crossed the line for these guys busy dealing with a crime scene. Another officer chirped back, "listen, we're working here. Do you mind?" The cable guy must not have grasped the situation because he stood there, staring at us. The officer had enough and finally broke it down for the guy. "We're officers with LMPD. See all that stuff in the yard? That's a meth lab. We just pulled it out of this house. We're arresting people and calling social services for children in the house. We're a little busy. I don't think we're interested in cable right now." Finally, the guy turned and began walking off but turned back to add, "maybe I'll try back later?" You can bet that drew an entertaining response from the group. If you haven't already heard, the digital television transition happens in less than 2 days. You can find answers to your questions about it at dtv.gov. If you don't have a converter box yet- I'd be willing to bet Insight would be more than happy to sign you up for cable... even if you're under arrest. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |
I bought all the new converter boxes and antenas and we still only pick up one channel that is so not fair. I called the FCC and they say that it is all brodcasting stations problem that I have a poor signal. What can be done if anything? I feel that our right to watch television has been taken away. I am a big fan of watching thenews at 5, 6, 10,11 and now i only can see it at 10pm. Can someone please get to the bottom of it?
