My brother's final Christmas wish

2008 has been a year filled with loss.
For many -- the loss of a job, or loss of confidence, perhaps the loss of a loved one.

Courier-Journal layoffs implications

The 51 people laid off Wednesday includes columnists, pressmen and people in circulation, sales, IT, graphic design and accounting. One name particularly lamented is Mark Schneider, a respected researcher. But, it also appears that few others in the newsroom are affected. And, I'm told all four arts critics still have their jobs.

Watch tonight's 5:30pm newscast fof what's going on inside the Louisville Courier-Journal. A source inside the paper tells me that several recognizable names are leaving.

One of them is long time Kentucky columnist Byron Crawford who is taking a combination buyout/early retirement. However, Art & Design writer Diane Heilenman tells me rumors of her departure are untrue.
