Man Caves for the whole family

The title "Man Caves" brings to mind the image of young men drinking beer and watching football on Sunday afternoon. The wooden bar surrounded by flat screen tv's creates an atmosphere that is for and about men.
But not so fast. My recent stories on Man Caves on WHAS11 found the basement hideaways are designed by men, but are really an entertainment center for the whole family.
Randy Smith's Man Cave is called Champ and Biscuit's and it was really built with his two sons in mind. The finished basement is a connecting point for the whole family and their friends.
Champ and Biscuit's is filled with sports bar games that Randy and sons discovered on youth baseball trips. The finished basement is pretty basic stuff, with a painted floor and an antique bar rescued from a Southside honky tonk. But the kids and their friends love the pool table, the shuffleboard, the slot machine and the video games. It seems that Randy is always looking for a new game to bring down the metal stairs.
And the games are surrounded by sports memories, pictures and trophies from the days that his boys played football and baseball around the country. They are the center of his life and Randy is a dad, who created a place where his kids can be safe at home.
And Mom, Carol Smith, uses the bar to host her lady friends for bunco. And she's secure in the fact that her kids are more likely to hang out at home, than someplace else.
It has a metal staircase that transports you into the cave. And even Carol won't go into the restroom that has a urinal. But it's the whole family's special retreat. They love sports and games and they love to play together.
Yes, it's very masculine, a man cave, but it really brings a family together.
