Global Warming?

8:46 AM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 |

I remember my mom breaking out in a sweat when I was growing up, not because of something I did, but because she was going through "The Change." Now my kids are looking at me asking why my emotions can turn on a dime, or why I like my fan blowing at high speeds in the bedroom all the time.

Is it Global Warming?

No, just a hot flash.

I am a firm believer in talking about it, talking about everything, just ask my poor children.
Not necessarily talking to them about just my change of life, but perhaps theirs.
I just think talking about things, bringing them out into the open can only be helpful.

I did an interview recently with Dr. Rebecca Booth, my kind of gal!
She likes to talk about "women" things, in fact, has written an entire book about it called The Venus Week. She talks about hot flashes, women and menopause, sex and menopuase -- you name it, she tackles it. For women going through it, and yes, I think my change has started, it is of great comfort. As Rebecca says - -talking about it helps women cope and makes them feel like they are not alone!

I recently had a woman call me and ask if I would be willing to try out a new pajama aimed at women who were going through the change, aimed at keeping them cool at night. I first wondered if it was a joke from my morning co-horts, Andy and Jamie.
Once I realized she was legit, in a "flash" I said yes, I would give them a try, I would love to be a cool customer. It was Janice Moore from Dillard's, I guess she can recognize a hot flash candidate when she sees one, it is her job after all. I have been wearing my Clarity pajama's now for a month and I do think they've helped.

The technology has been used by NASA for astronauts, even extreme athletes.
It's called OUTLAST technology, thermocules are in the fabric that trap cold, perspiration and heat and release it into the air. It was my older 'sis Pam who said "talk about Global Warming", when I told her about the fabric that could release our heat into the air!
Yep, hot flashes apparently run in the family.

But here's the good news.
Women are talking about it, finally marketers are paying attention to us as a demographic. WE count -- just ask the producers of the movie "Sex and the City" after their box office success. So let's move on from talking about shoes, and start talking about pajama's that help us keep our cool!

If you have a special way to keep cool, share it on our comment page.

I saw on tv your story about menopause, hot flashes, and night sweats. Now about the new night gowns. Sounds wonderful!

I did myself a little research, and asked a Dr on line, on what all I can do for the menopause. I don't want to take prescription, medicine, so he told me that the good ole down the earth herb called Flaxseed Oil, was real good and safe. It might take a couple of weeks for the flaxseed to take effect. So I tried it, I take 2000 Mg's a day. I have been taking it everyday for about a month, or so. Let me tell you, it is a MIRACLE a real MIRACLE!!! I very seldom, have a hot flash not bad at all. I highly suggest all women to give it a try, This one really works. I sleep good at night. It is a Herb, which is good. Going Green LOL I haven't had any side effects. Thank goodness!

I just thought that you might want to remember to give it a try, when you reach menopause. age. Thank you Phyllis,

Hey Rachel! Hi - well, my first brush with fame made me decide I need a face lift! All kidding aside, thanks for the opportunity - it was fun. I need to get a pair of the pajamas so I am legit myself! They are currently sold out, so if you hear of a restock, let me know.

Again, thanks so much!

I saw where you were doing this piece and set my recorder in case i missed it. I've also fowarded the story to my sister in NC!!! The price is a bit steep, but I'm willing to try. By the way, my doc is Dr. Booth and she's as straight forward in the exam room as she appears to be in her new book.

i agreed with the lady on your story about sometimes it's embarassing when you're melting and trying to be professional or act like you're not. Surely there's something else that can be done when we're awake!

Thanks for bringing this subject to the news!
