After the Accident

10:47 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 |

Think back to when you were 18, 19 or 20 years old. Think of all the random road trips you took without thinking twice. I know when I was in college I took a few. I took some in the middle of the night without much planning or forethought. I never once thought I wouldn't make it back home. I didn't realized how blessed I was.

For the past two days I have been covering a triple fatal car accident in Clinton County, IN. That's north of Indianapolis. Three young men from Louisville were killed in the accident. It was a cross over crash. The driver of the car lost control and crossed over the median of I-65. Their car went straight into the path of a semi. All of the men were killed in the collision. Tyrone Richie was 18 years old. Julius Mitchell was 19 years old. Eric Turner was 23 years old. They were coming back from a Janet Jackson concert in Chicago. They probably had a fantastic time. No one ever thinking that would be their final moments on earth.

They all had big plans for the future. Their families looked forward to seeing them reach their goals. Now their families are dealing with something else completely. As I wrote the stories for our morning show and our evening newscasts - I couldn't help but think back to the time when I was their age on the road having a good time. It's a little reminder to us all how precious each day really is.

If you knew these young men and would like to post comments about them feel free to do so below.

It has been a very say time for me personally. Im still getting use to the fact dat all three of them are gone...I grew up around the corner from Julius and he was such a great friend and then I meet Eric and Tyrone down the road...It was jus last month that I saw all three together and now thats the last memory I have. Yes it hurts that they are gone but it was Gods calling for them to come home. I love you guys and please watch over us down here...U WILL BE GREATLY MISSED....My prayers are with the families.

It's Just a sad time for the family. I remember when they would hang out on our porch when they were in Elementary School. My kids grew up with Julius and his brother. And I know that the Family will make it through this, they are very strong in Jesus Christ. And I know it's hard to find the words to say but my Prayers goes out to all 3 of the families.

Julius's mom was my hairdresser for a few years.During times at the shop, I met Julius along with the rest of the family. It sadden myheart to know that someone I crossed paths with, lost their life so young. The Mitchell Family will remain in my prayers, because I know how it is to lose someone you love. We must continously remind ourselves that they are in a much better place, where they can now watch over us.
"He'll never put more on you, than what you can bare"
GOD BLESS-- Dyeisha Young and Family
