Crazy Night in 'Catlanta

11:31 AM Sat, Mar 15, 2008 |

What a bizarre night in Atlanta Georgia for Kentucky basketball fans. It's now nearly noon on Saturday and the Wildcats still haven't played a game in the SEC Tournament. Tornados ripped though downtown Atlanta with just 2:11 left in the Mississippi State/Alabama game. Kentucky never took the floor. The damage and devastation to both the Georgia Dome and the city is extensive.

Amazingly, to date noone has died. 300 people in Fulton County suffered minor injuries like cuts, bruises and broken bones and one person was injured very seriously. The Georgia Dome has been deemed unsafe for the SEC Tournament to continue there.

Sooooo, the entire operation (minus the fans) has been moved to Georgia Tech University. Right now I'm sitting an arena with other media, cheerleaders, the bands and team family members. It's unlike any experience I've ever had in covering sports.

There is one positive here from a media perspective. I'm sitting in the front row, and we can now shoot video of the game. There wasn't enough time to move the video feed opperation over from the Georgia Dome. All in all the SEC has done an unbelievable job moving the game in less than ideal circumstances.

If Kentucky wins they get to play again tonight at 8:30. I don't know if a college basketball team has ever played two games in one day.

We'll check back in after the 12noon tip.
