I am always nervous when doing an interview from jail. I have now done a total of three and the most recent happened this week. You walk into a county jail or prison and you are ushered into a little room. Then you wait. The inmate you are interviewing finally walks in - wearing handcuffs and then you start. Kids say the most interesting things. I was working with a group of fifth graders the other day. I was talking to them about respect and how to resolve conflicts before it turns to violence. The subject of peacemakers came up. I was telling them how a third party can get involved and help stop feuds between friends. I was in court this morning and looked the two men in the eyes that are charged with killing Earon Harper and shooting her daughter Erica Hughes. In case you are not familiar with this attack, the shootings happened about a year ago close to 18th and Wilson in Louisville.

Can you imagine – three teens all friends killing themselves in one year. What is going on? It happened with three girls who all once attended Bullitt East High School in Mt. Washington. There is speculation about what prompted the drastic measure but no one really knows for sure about the motive. It’s heartbreaking and families are devastated.
