In an earlier blog entry, I raised the question if "talk" of a grand jury date in the J'Town parking lot shooting indicates any leanings by the Commonwealth's Attorney. As it turns out, Dave Stengel's office let me know that Stengel had already said that he will take the investigation to a grand jury regardless of what it holds. Of course, a prosecutor has some influence in those grand jury settings, so a big question remains how convincing any evidence is to Dave Stengel. A couple other notes: Stengel not only met with Chief Sanders last week, but also with the medical examiner concerning this case. Keep in mind, one of the experts hired by Jeffersontown police is a medical doctor to diagram Darren Pickerill's wounds, ostensibly to help determine how Pickerill was positioned when he was shot three times in his left arm, once in his chest and once in the right frontal lobe of his head. Stengel and Chief Rick Sanders meet once a week. Friday is the two month anniversary of the shooting. Saturday would have been Pickerill's and Toby Kubas's wedding day. |
