I went out on a story in Jeffersonville, Indiana today with Rebecca Rector. Basically, this convicted sex offender coaches his son's Clarksville Little League team but he's not allowed to attend any of the team's games in Jeffersonville because of a city law banning sex offenders from public parks.
We tried to reach the coach-- but his name isn't listed in the phone book and we couldn't find a number for him anywhere. We set up an interview with the Jeffersonville City Council Member who drafted the ordinance, and the city's lawyer who will argue their case. These men were talkers! Their interviews were decent-- a lot of legal jargon though. No "emotional" sound here. These men were very helpful though. They gave us all the legal documents we needed- the charges filed against the coach, why he was denied an appeal, all the documents he would need before he could be granted an appeal, etc. They also gave us the coach's phone number. We called him a few times but he wasn't home. His wife said he probably wouldn't give an interview-- and he never called us back so that's a big "no". The story would have been a lot stronger if we could have gotten the coach to talk-- but sometimes people just don't want to comment. Overall, a very interesting story. Looking at the tapes I noticed that most of the soundbites weren't that usable (they were lonnnggg and full of legal mumbo-jumbo). We found a few good ones buried in there though!

I am directly involved with this story and I really wish that people would get all the facts before passing judgment about this. There are a lot of facts that none of the media has reported. They have only reported what they think is correct and edited out the facts and truths.
If everyone is so concerned about all the details of this case, then maybe if they went back to the original event which was almost 12 yrs ago and found out the whole story they might see there is more to it then just what is on the surface. I am referring to the fact that there were 3 males and 3 females at the location when this "crime" took place but this man was the only one charged. Why is that when all 6 people were involved in sexual acts put only one person was charged. And maybe the fact that the 3 girls ran away from home then was in an auto accident and that is when the police found out they were runaways and to young to be driving. In my opinion and facts from 2 of the 3 girls, the female who all the charges are over lied to keep herself out of trouble.
I wonder what she thinks now about what happened. Does she even realize that a 10 little boy is paying for lies and mistakes that happened before he was even born? Probably not just like no one else, media included, are thinking about that either.
