Recently I helped Erik out at the Paul Hornung Golf Scrammble, where something like 30 Hall of Famers and Heisman winners were planning. Some names like Mike Ditka, Deacon Jones, Mike Rozier and Gale Sayers were all there. And the thing I came away with most from this event is that these guys have good stories and they all have serious physical problems now. Hopefully, most of them are secure financially for the rest of their lives, but they all must hurt every morning when they get up. Deacon Jones has some of the most crocked fingers you ever could see, and almost all of the guys were limping, some very badly. It amazed me that some of these guys were the best players of their day. But, I also took away that these guys didn't walk around sorry for their injuries. In fact, they were really cool guys, especially Deacon Jones. He sat with us for probably 30 minutes talking about different stories from his playing days, which I won't repeat. This was probably the best experience of my internship so far, and hopefully I will be able to meet other interesting people and learn more good stories. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |
