But inquiring minds - including mine - didn't get a chance to find out. As those of us who regularly cover the White House know, lots of people see the president daily, but we only get to see a select few. This time, the White House limited coverage to still photos taken by its own photographer and released later. No chance for us to even record some small talk for posterity. What's more, the Idols were ushered out by a side exit, far out of camera range. Given that the American Idol crew garnered far more votes than our chief executive, and that his poll numbers show no signs of reviving, you'd think the chief executive wouldn't mind basking in the Idols' reflection. The meeting was said to have been a favor arranged by Laura Bush's press secretary, who happens to be a former teacher of Idol winner Taylor Hicks. What with the president grappling with grave questions of war and peace, today might not have been the right day to be seen bantering with some visiting entertainers. But after his recent visit to Graceland at the behest of Japan's Elvis-worshipping Prime Minister, a thought occurred. What if the Idols asked him to join them in song? I mean, have you ever seen the president try to carry a tune? Posted by WCNC.com staff at July 28, 2006 5:45 PM CommentsActually W's poll numbers have jumped 10% in 6 weeks. But don't let facts stand in the way of your pithy comments. Posted by: Don Matter at July 29, 2006 9:51 AM you have to be a democrat to write nonsense such as that. Posted by: jerry at July 29, 2006 12:09 PM The song would be, "What Kind of Fool Am I?" Posted by: lk at July 29, 2006 1:42 PM The Idols should be singing to Bush........" Hit the road Jack........and don't ya come back no more, no more" !!! Posted by: CINDY at July 30, 2006 6:49 AM Some touchy Republicans out there. It didn't even seem that anti-Bush. You guys need a sense of humor, as well as a better source for your polling than Fox "News". Posted by: tp at July 30, 2006 4:50 PM Hey Don, His poll is up to 22% now? That is awesome! All of the oil CEO's are real pleased with the profits he is making for them. The facts are over 60% of Americans are NOT happy with the Administration. That is America and the next votes will reflect that. Oh, and for the record I am a Republican who is ashamed. Posted by: John Hammond at July 31, 2006 7:22 AM What a formulaic piece of gibberish. Folks, how sad is it that this is considered news worthy? Posted by: Tammy Conner at July 31, 2006 9:43 AM I don't care if Bush's poll numbers have jumped 100%. He is still the worst and dumbest President that we have ever had. All of you who display that "W" on your SUV's, get someone to scrap that shame off for you. Posted by: Kerry at July 31, 2006 11:01 AM It's not news; it's a blog. If you're relying on blogs (which are people's observations about the news) for determining what's newsworthy, you're in trouble! Posted by: kiki at July 31, 2006 4:08 PM © WCNC TV |
