Also Online: See photos from training camp Yes, the big man is nasty! The big happening from my trip to Panthers camp on Wednesday really wasn't anything to get too excited about. About halfway through the morning practice, rookie offensive lineman Jeff Otah got into a bit of a scuffle with Tyler Brayton. It lasted about 15 seconds and let's face it, there really isn't any reason to get real excited about guys throwing punches at each other when they are wearing helmets, but as camp is settling into a nice grind it's a small break from the norm. What I really liked about the fight (and no, I am not a lover of violence) was that it proved, I think, a point that Jake Delhomme made on Saturday as practice first began. That though he may be a rookie, Jeff Otah has a nasty streak, something you really, really like in a big offensive lineman. Rookie or not, he didn't like something that the 6-year veteran was doing, and he wasn't afraid to let him know and stand his ground. I think it's a sign that the Panthers offense has great things in store for us this year, because we all know that when it comes to offense, it all starts upfront with the offensive line. Other than the fight, about all I have to report is that the thermostat was cranked up nice and high, with the humidity right there with it! Only two more days of camp before the boys return to Charlotte for Saturday's fanfest! Ira |
