Well, it wasn't my whole day just the very beginning of my day at the Atlantic Coast Conference's yearly games to see who is best. Not for the regular season mind you, just a three-day event, which gives lower rung teams a chance to make a final push for a trip to the Big Dance, and the upper echelons teams a chance to solidify or improve their seeds.

But it was before a basket was shot or single bead of sweat hit the floor that my day began.
I was able to go somewhere few get to. Not the locker rooms. I was there as all the people behind the scenes took measure of how the first day went and what they expect to come.

Every day of an event such as this, a conference call takes place. On the call is any department, group or organization in the city of Charlotte that is affected by such things as the ACC tournament.

So around 8:30 a.m. folks at CATS, police, fire, hospitality (hotels), Center city, Bobcats Arena and others go over how things are going. And so far, so good, they say.

We listen as they converse about everything from how visitors are dealing with getting around town to how CATS has added an extra run to accommodate the masses heading to and leaving the Arena and other places in the Queen City.

In about 45 minutes the meeting was over and everyone was off to handle their tasks, and I was off to put my story on for the day, so I could get off and go watch some basketball.
