From 'American Idol' to 'America's Got Talent', you can hardly turn on the TV these days without finding reality shows nearly non-stop, 24-hours-a-day.
This weekend, though, I turned off the TV, and found the talent right here in the Carolinas at the Cabarrus County American Red Cross Starz competition.
Singers from all over the Carolinas came out to compete. One girl was just 6-years-old, but WOW could she sing! In all, 28 people took part - singing everything from opera, to country, to Hannah Montana.
Congratulations to Jordan Beaver, a fourth grader at Union Elementary in Shelby, who won the 12-and-under age group. Congrats as well to Mackenzie Guffey, a sophomore at Northwest Cabarrus High School, who won the 13-and-up category.
By the end of the night, the Red Cross collected nearly $25,000 for the fundraiser.
As for the two winners, they both received a $1,000 check, a medal, and one incredible reason to keep singing. Who knows - maybe we'll see them someday, on that non-stop 24-7 reality TV.
