Hello all. Cold weather is finally upon us and with it comes the concern for high energy costs. We have gone over some of the things we can all do that will not cost a lot of money so let’s review what they are.
Lower your homes’ thermostat setting. Set it at 68 degrees and wear sweaters. The savings will be immediate.
Use your ceiling fans. Set the direction of rotation so the fan pulls the air up against the ceiling. This will spread the heat evenly and not force it down directly on you if you are below the fan. In the summer months, set the direction of rotation to blow down on you.
Open your blinds or curtains in the daylight to let the sun in. As we saw in the Efficient Home tour videos in earlier video blogs, the use of the sun shining in the home is a great way to get free heat. At night, close blinds and curtains.
Snuggle with someone special. This is one of my favorites and it really works.
This week’s Simply Green blog includes a video blog. Energy costs are up so I decided to have a Home Energy Audit. I had a fellow named John Cannamela come over and do an Infrared survey of my home. His company is called Infrared Survey and I encourage everyone to visit the company’s Web site at www.infraredsurvey.com. Here you will find all kinds of information about John and his company and what services he can provide.
So until next week, stay warm and stay green.
