Hello once again, I hope everyone is doing well. I am going to cover a couple of topics in this weeks blogs.

First of all, it was great to hear from a couple of readers of this blog. They shared with me some ideas to save money and natural resources.

Gary Leblanc had an idea to save water while waiting for the warm water to come out of the tap and Michelle Meadows wrote to tell me about Peak Time Energy Program.

It’s good to see folks doing things to make a difference. It is easy to do and I hope that by writing this blog, people will see that every little bit counts in helping the planet survive.

I mentioned Rain Barrels in my last Blog and now that the rain is starting to fall a little bit more, it might be time to look into rain barrels. What’s a rain barrel you ask? It is a barrel that collects rain water as it come down the down spout from the gutters of your home. By using a rain barrel, you store water when it rains and use it instead of turning on the spigot to water your garden. This is a smart way to lessen the amount of water you use to water the plants and trees. Please notice I said plants and trees. I did not say lawns. Trees and plants are far more valuable the grass.

Oh yeah, back to the rain barrels. They come in several sizes, from 40 gallons to 80 gallons. Fifty gallons is the most common size and they are so easy to use. All you have to do is position the barrel near the down spout. Put the barrel on some blocks to get it off the ground. Cut the down spout so a flex pipe can be installed so the water goes into the barrel instead of down the spout to the ground.

Rain barrels come in all shapes, colors and sizes so finding one that looks good at your house will be easy. Just go online and search for Rain Barrels and you will find a great deal of information to get you started. One of my favorites is RainBarrelusa.com. It is a local company and the people there are great.

With counties starting watering restrictions the time is right to reduce the amount of water you use and still have a beautiful garden.

Until next time, remember to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and you will make a difference in the world.

Wow! Rain barrels. I'll have to remember that one and implement it, too. Nothing better than rain to water the garden.
Thanks for the tip, Mr. Esposito.
