 Executive News Director |
We’ve got a new family member! Greg Bailey joins WCNC next week as our Sports Director. He comes to us from KING, our sister station in Seattle where he’s been working the past six years.
I logged onto KING’s web site and watched the farewell piece they did on Greg, and it inspired me to write a blog. ( My first! )
I am lucky enough to be the Executive News Director at WCNC, and part of my job is to hire folks. Searching for a sports director was no easy task. My office was inundated with tapes from sportscasters all over the country. It was overwhelming. But it was fun to watch all the talent out there, and wonder, who is the right person for Charlotte?
I loved Greg’s tape the minute I watched it. I sensed his love of writing, his passion for people. His story telling stood out. So we brought Greg in for an interview. You know how you can feel it when something seems so right? That’s how we instantly felt about Greg. He fits.
WCNC is a special place. We have great people. Greg is joining a team who will embrace him the minute he walks in the door. He has integrity and a strong work ethic. Partnered up with weekend sportscaster, Ira Cronin, it just doesn’t get any better. Our sports coverage will shine. Even if you’re not a sports fan, you’ll want to watch the stories.
Take a look at KING’s goodbye tape and keep your eyes on WCNC to say hello to Greg Bailey!
Although I do visit the website often, I can't watch the news. I live in Belize, have family in Charlotte and check up on there happenings often.
Welcome to the Family Greg.
Welcome, Greg. Hope you find Charlotte a great sports town! I'm not a sports watcher but know you are in good company.
How about going back to regular programing for the day. It is just snow. Those foolish enough to drive deserve what happens. PLEASE allow the rest of us that are at home to enjoy their regular programs we seldom get to see for being at work. Get a grip. It is a little bit of snow. Not a hurricane. Not 3 feet of snow. PLEASE. WCNC is NOT the weather, it is suppose to report in a logical way at a definate time, what we need to know. thanks jg
Welcome to WCNC and Charlotte Greg.Your goodbye
tape says a lot about you and your way with people.I am sure you will enjoy your many years with the station as they do not hire people who do not meet their expections. It will be a pleasure to watch you report on the local and national sports. Again Welcome to the best station in Charlotte.
Dear Greg:
I will miss you! You are an inspiration to me as I pursue my own sports broadcasting dreams at Walla Walla University (soon to be Washington State as I am planning a transfer). Watching you night in and night out has brought me extreme joy.
I will miss you, Greg Bailey. I e-mailed you some time ago to discuss the business with you. Thank you for all you have done for Seattle. While Seattle will miss you, I will log on to see your work in Charlotte.
Thank you for being my inspiration.
Sincerely,
Bary Roy Hunt
Greetings,
Your early morning newscast was the one that I had on each day as I prepared to go to work/school. It was like getting to know your own family. I especially enjoyed Larry Sprinke and his comic relief at times as "Elvis".
Things have changed in my lifestyle and I have even been away from the area for awhile. Upon my direction back to WCNC, I noticed that the ususal sports director was absent from the broadcasts. Guess that any explantion as to his whereabouts had been previously given before my return to town.
I really am sorry to say that I don't remember his full name--just "Howard" is ringing a bell. He had been at your station for many years. If I am correct, I believe he was a bachelor for many years. Then, not too long ago I was told that he had "tied the knot"! Please just give me some info about his leaving and where he went.
Thanks for any insight.
