6NEWS Anchor

A friend once questioned jokingly, “Are you serving chicken biscuits?” He was referring to a brick wall that used to be behind our news set here at WCNC.

Apparently, it reminded him and his wife of a certain fast food establishment. I don’t know if I’d take it that far, but I can say with conviction, I am glad to see the faux brick gone.

With that said, it’s an exciting time here at 6NEWS. While I write this, I hear hammering and sawing, and I just saw a painter walk in with brushes in hand. Our studio is finally being remodeled after years of much the same look. It may sound like such a minor thing. People re-paint in their homes all the time. But at a news station, the set helps define your image and so changes aren’t made without a lot of careful planning first. Another reason stations don’t change the set like we re-arrange our furniture comes down to cost. I heard an estimate of what we’re spending on this remodel. And let me just tell you, it’s in the neighborhood of adding another bedroom and bathroom to my home. Yikes! I have gotten a sneak peek at the new design, and it’s impressive.

Anyway, until construction is complete, we’ll be coming to you from the newsroom. These shots show a rare look at all the folks who work hard daily to bring you the news you see. And if you’re a sucker for a little construction TV, you can actually peep in on the studio work. Just click here for a look at the studio camera. Enjoy the view… and look for the debut of a new and improved 6NEWS Studio sometime next week.

Well, personally, I just don't like WCNC's newscast....never have for that matter. I have and always will be a WSOC-TV loyalist. However, I do enjoy the Carolina Traveler immensely.
