First there were five and then only three. We were down to three one-on-one interviews with the Top 10 Idol finalists who were appearing in concert at the Bobcats Arena.
We were first told five idols would be available, but that quickly became three and I was worried it would turn out to only be one.
We walked into Bobcats arena around 3 p.m. Tuesday without any idea which ones we’d get to talk to.
Three of the top 10 are from North Carolina. Chris Daughtry, the rocker from the group, is from McLeansville. Bucky Covington currently lives in Rockingham, but has plans to move to Nashville after the Idol tour to pursue his dream of recording country music.
And of course, there’s Kellie Pickler from Albemarle, dubbed the Kellie Pickler Capital of the world. Kellie has been busy not only with the tour, but recently as guest co-host of ‘The View’ and before a red carpet correspondent for the MTV video music awards on the Tonight show with Jay Leno. Bucky Covington after our interview. |
We were all shuttled to a portion of the concourse where we were told to wait for the Idols to come down. Around 3:15 p.m. Bucky Covington walks out wearing jeans and black cowboy hat. He’s escorted over to our camera and I quickly introduce myself.
Bucky is a true gentleman. He talks about how his life has changed since being on ‘American Idol’ and he’s getting used to being recognized around town.
“You come out to these shows and see show they react…and it really makes me feel like I have a career in this thing,” he says. (Click here to watch the entire interview)
Elliott Yamin after our interview. |
About 10 minutes later Elliott Yamin appeared. With his hat on backwards, a tank top and shorts, Elliott walked over and shook my hand as I introduced myself. He immediately crossed his arms in front of his chest and I took that as a sign that he really didn’t want to do this interview. After a few one word answers, to probably dumb questions on my part, Elliott opened up about life on the road and his future in the music industry.
“All I really care about is getting up there on stage and performing,” he says. (Click here to watch the entire interview)
Kellie Pickler after our interview. |
After the interview we were told Kellie Pickler would be down shortly. About 15 minutes later she walked out in flip flops, jeans and an Albemarle T-shirt. And she had long hair again! Shortly after she show she cut it short, and here she was again with long hair. So of course I had to ask. She said they’re clip on extensions for the show, just to change things up.
Kellie talked about getting used to her celebrity status and having to pinch herself to make sure it’s really happening. “It’s definitely a dream come true…I love it all.” (Click here to watch the entire interview)
How can you get to meet the idols. Also is there a way to e-mail Kellie.
