Bobby and Colleen were in New York for a promo shoot with "Today" show anchors Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera.
The big wigs at WCNC said they were sending Bobby and me to New York City to shoot promotional spots with Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera. I was excited to go to NY with my friend and colleague on the company dime, but I felt a tinge of disappointment that Katie wouldn’t be there.
I knew Bobby and I would have fun… it just wouldn’t be the same without my Katie.
We arrived at 30 Rockefeller on Monday morning and we were treated like we were SOMEBODY. A nice intern took us to “wardrobe”. Then we were escorted to the hair and makeup room. Mary re-did my makeup (apparently it was on too thick and the color was too light… will I ever get it right?) and Laura can really work with some Velcro rollers. I have to say… my hair looked great! I felt so cute… like those girls in the Pantene commercials. Then it was off to meet Matt and Meredith. I was getting nervous. I was starting to sweat. A lot.
Bobby and I were sitting on the set when the new anchor team came up to us. Matt is handsome, elegant and funny. I’ve met him twice before (of course, he has no memory of that) so I kind of knew what to expect. But Meredith…. What would she be like? The woman replacing my beloved Katie? You want the scoop? Here it is:

There was no diva-like behavior. Meredith gave me a hug and a Hollywood kiss.. You know when your cheeks touch and you kiss the air. I gave her some stuff that I use to help me go to bed early and wake up in the middle of the night. She seemed genuinely grateful for the gesture and said she’d use the stuff I gave her. Meredith had a great sense of humor… she was very easy to joke around with. Her and Matt seem to have a great rapport. Granted we only spent 15 minutes with them… but for me it was a telling 15 minutes. I thought Meredith was delightful. I think she’s going to be great in her new job.
I thought, at best, Meredith could only be my rebound gal. What else could I expect considering Katie and I were in a long-term relationship? But I’m optimistic. Our brief meeting could be the groundwork for a long and meaningful “friendship”.

I think a lot of us loyal NBC viewers are wondering how the Today show is going to click without Katie. Sounds like it's going to be just fine!
By the way .... as far as I'm concerned, you and Bobby and Larry and Coretta are my Today Show every weekday morning! I literally cannot start my day without you all. The NBC morning crew is the best. Like family! You all have the most amazing chemistry. I've never seen another news crew who click the way you all do!

Oh, and I just have to say ..... you, Colleen, are absolutely beautiful! Katie and Meredith have nothing on you!
Keep up the good work! And keep Larry straight if it's at all possible!
