I love some of the contestants. I love hating some of the contestants. I love hearing what Simon has to say. I love making fun of Paula. I love that it gives me something to talk about.
I’ve often been envious of sports fans and how they can so easily strike up conversation with other sports lovers. They can talk about trades, plays and passes ad nauseam. I can never join in these water cooler talks because I have nothing to add. I ask questions like, “Steve Smith plays football, right?”
When the Carolina Panthers were in the playoffs everyone at the office was talking about it. But I had nothing to say. The Panthers game WAS on at my house. My husband watched while I read People magazine. I’ve always noticed how quickly small talk turns into sports talk between two virtual strangers. Next thing you know, they’re bonding. American Idol is my Panthers playoff game.
I can’t wait to get to work and find out what everyone thought of Mandisa. Before I even ask my friends how their sick children are doing, I say first… “Let’s discuss Idol. How HOT is Chris Daughtry?” I can break down the intricacies that is Idol with just about anyone who will listen. I’ve argued and debated with many of my colleagues and friends about which contestants will make the top 5. I’ve talked to people I hardly ever talk to… thanks to American Idol. AH… finally I’ve found a sport I understand.
Everyone’s a critic when watching American Idol. I’m usually such a nice person. I’m the first to hand out compliments and give someone a well deserved “atta-boy”. But I can be downright mean when it comes to Idol. Thank God Kevin Covais got the boot Wednesday night. I couldn’t take it anymore. Bless his little heart… I’m sure he’s a nice kid, yadda, yadda, yadda. But let’s be honest. How could he be the American Idol when even the 19-year-old Kellie Pickler looks like she could be his nanny?
Taylor Hicks is growing on me… but I can’t help but think he looks like he’s having a seizure when he performs. But when all is said and done, these performers have boatloads of courage that I could never muster. To get on that stage with an audience of millions every week and give it their all is pretty cool.
You really need to get out more, Colleen.
I love American Idol also, Colleen! It's one
of the few shows that my children and I enjoy to
watch together. (Let's face it there's not
much else I would want my children to watch
except PBS and TVLand.)
My mother watches American Idol every week.
That's three generations that enjoy this
show!
Play us a song before your morning news show,on the piano, and maybe you could become a contestant on the AMERICAN IDOL.
This show went down when Mandisa got voted off.
