 The Carolina Traveler |
I have a stack of e-mails here to which I haven’t responded. I’m still catching up from being gone five weeks. I promise I’ll get to them all. You may get a new job in another city and move before I get to yours, but I’ll get there.
I picked out three from the stack for your reading pleasure. Really they’re for my pleasure. So if you’re busy today you can skip this journal and come back next week.
As always I’ve followed each e-mail with my imagined response...
Mike,
We enjoy your show so very much. It is interesting and entertaining and rarely do you see such humor in interviews. Mike, keep up the good work and know that you are appreciated and watched by so many. We hope WCNC will give you more time to expand your show.
Your South Carolina friend,
Judy
Dear Judy,
I published your email strictly to stroke my own ego.
We both love me!
Can it get any better?
Probably not,
Mike
Good afternoon,
My name is Ashley and I am the kind of person who likes to write to people and tell them they have a great product or are doing a great job. I know it is kind of goofy but I think we all hear way too many negative comments so when I have positive comments I like to share them. (This practice used to get me free stuff when I was little and wrote to companies like Hawaiian Punch and Hartz Dog Toys.) Now I guess it is just fan mail when I send it to people. So add this to your numerous fan letters. I love your show! The topics just make me laugh and you have the greatest temperament with people.
So please keep up the good work. Have a great day!
Ashley
Dear Ashley,
Can you tell me more about how to get free stuff? I like free stuff.
Thanks,
Mike
Hi Mike!
You've done it again! You moved me to tears...again! Every time I watch The Carolina Traveler I hear a story that just brings me to tears. I love the show and hope it goes on for many years to come.
I now have a DVR and I don't miss a single episode!
I was also wanting to know if copies of the stories are on video or I guess everything now-a-days are DVD format for sale? I would love to have a library of the show to go back over and over again.
Your biggest fan!
Gretchen
Dear Gretchen,
First, I posted your opening paragraph strictly for my own ego. I could have edited it out. I didn’t. It’s not that I’m desperate for praise. It’s that I love it. I’m an egomaniacal, uh, maniac. Wait. That’s redundant. Well, maybe I am that… twice… or 2 times… or to the 2nd power… whatever.
Secondly, on the matter of DVD’s for sale: We operate the Carolina Traveler show as a non-profit. We don’t sell DVD sets because we don’t want any more money. We’re trying to hide or spend the piles of money we already have! When oh when will the money ever stop piling up?
Lastly, as for you DVRing (or digitally recording) the show: that’s brilliant. Anyone out there who does not have a DVR or TIVO device is missing the greatest revolution in TV watching since color arrived. To be able to type the words “CAROLINA TRAVELER” (or any show you like) into a machine and have it automatically record the show every time it airs, no matter when it airs, that’s an invention (unlike most) that truly does make life easier.
Thanks for the note.
Sorry I made you cry,
Mike
Okay, I have to go spend a pile of this money before another pile arrives. They don’t teach you about this in journalism school. Sheesh! This is hard work!
Don’t forget to say something great about me today,
|
