What's next for the team

My biggest fear heading into this game was realized. I think the Panthes expended alot of energy and emotion last week in Chicago and it seemed to have caught up with all of them.

I believe it was a more banged up football team than we were being told.

In the locker room after the game Julius Peppers couldn't lift his own duffle bag and Dan Morgan told me he's slated for surgery mid-week along with Deshaun Foster.

The injuries were certainly part of Sunday night's drupping but this Panthers team could have been 100% and Seattle probably would still be on its way to Detroit.

If you are looking for a positive in this negative try this one. Sunday night's debacle unveiled many warts the Panthers still have when it comes to shoring up their roster.

John Fox drives us crazy when he constantly preaches his "run first" philosophy but Sunday night's performance by the offense was a glaring example of what happens when you can't run the football.

This team is in desperate need of a "stud" runningback. Deshaun Foster is not that guy.

Obviously there is not a wide receiver complimenting Steve Smith. And weakness number 3 and 3a, a road grader offensive lineman and an H-back type of tight end.

Kris Mangum has had a nice run with the team but I long for Wesley Walls badly, even if he couldn't and didn't block a lick.

Also, I thought the offensive game plan was pitiful Sunday night. It's easy to say that after the fact I know but the Panthers did not dictate the flow of the game like they did in New York and Chicago.

When it became apparent that the Seahawks were going to be tough to run against on the first series....Panthers came out second posession and continued to try to plod it down the field.

Adjusting has been a problem for this coaching staff also.

There I feel better.

As marvelous of a job John Fox did this past season with one offensive "sure-shot" Foxy made several mistakes that could have been and should have been corrected earlier in the season. The Rod Gardner experiment was one thing; after the second time he didn't dress for a game, why not cut him then and get Drew Carter some game experience? Or keep Gardner and at least have a veteran on the field that can rely on experience if not the playbook to make some plays? Secondly I knew Mangum couldn't catch two season ago...why wait to a critical third down in the NFC Championship to realize we need a tight end with better ball catching skills. The tapes will show Mangum dropping third down catches all season and last season etc...
Finally, if the team gave Dan Morgan more millions why not shave a couple million off of his package and given the extra 1 or 2 million to Muhsin? Chris Draft proved we can play good defense without Morgan but we didn't play balanced offense without Moose. So goes it. The season is over we did well, should have done better and let's stop being country boys about free agents and the draft and get some players. Ricky is worth a two or three year deal. He wants a ring because he wants out of football ultimately so why not let him help us and himself. Edge does not want to stop playing football ever seems like. If we like that kind of guy then lets pay him and win this thing.
